In recent decades, human beings have caused a loss of biodiversity and the degradation of ecosystems that is becoming an increasing cause for concern worldwide. Around one million species of animals and plants are now at risk of extinction as a result of the growing impact of human activities. The main causes of biodiversity loss are, in order of importance, land-use changes, species exploitation, climate change, and pollution. This disappearance of diversity is a negative indicator of the loss of habitability on the planet, since all living beings, including humans, depend on biodiversity and the natural resources it provides. In addition to the loss of nature’s intrinsic value, an enormous number of goods and services provided by ecosystems in purely social and economic dimensions are also being lost or degraded. Biodiversity ensures food security, human health, the supply of clean air and drinking water, and provides a protective effect by mitigating the impact of pathogens and infections.

We must respect the environment by preserving our surroundings, promoting natural heritage against climate change, and preventing ecosystem degradation through actions aimed at restoring and maintaining a healthier environment. We must strive to halt the loss of biodiversity caused by changes in land use. The logging of trees and forests often becomes part of the climate change problem; therefore, we must prevent deforestation. The loss of biodiversity is clearly one of the causes of the current climate crisis. The creation of this MOUNTAIN NATURE RESERVE, made up of three different ecosystems located in the Andean mountain range of Chubut, focuses on the conservation and preservation of its flora and fauna through vegetation management, with the purpose of protecting biodiversity as a source of sustainable development.
